Today was Colton’s 2nd appointment with Healthy Kids 4 Life. This appointment was a meeting with a behavioral specialist, exercise specialist, and follow -up with Dr. Williams. I’d say that all in all it was a good day. Colton didn’t really engage with the behavioral specialist. I could tell there was no connection. He answered the questions, but that was it. The exercise specialist was a young and hip gal. Though Colton wasn’t jump up and down happy to meet her, he did well during this part. She engaged him and challenged him. He had to do some “physical” activities to establish a base in and set some goals.

He had to do some “physical” activities to establish a base in and set some goals. Let’s just say his heart rate got accelerated. She challenged us both on some of the thoughts about exercise. I told her that Colton’s parents, Tator and I, were not exactly great role models in the world of exercise. I was honest and told her I would rather go bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies than exercise. She challenged me that I had not found the right exercise for me. So maybe some exploring in the world of exercise will happen.
Dr. Williams was the highlight of our visit. She is spunky, witty, engaging, relatable, patient, kind, loving…man I sound like I might have a girl crush on her. Both Colton and I like her. I really like her. I like her because she gets my son, she gets his quirks, she gets his humor, she speaks his language. What more could you ask for in a Doctor? On the medical side of things, Colton’s blood pressure was 100/64. SCORE!!!!! AND…….he had lost 5 lbs in 21 days. DOUBLE SCORE!!! He was disappointed in that number. But I reminded him that it is a journey we are on.
Our next appointment is with the dietician. This one I think will be quite pivotal for me. This one will be where I really feel like the rubber will meet the road and accountability for me will take place.
Izzy has had the flu for 5 days but is finally back at school. YAY!!! Tator has had a cold and has not whined a bunch. Double YAY!!! It has been pretty low key at the Ponderosa. I am sorry that I don’t have some awesome new recipe that we tried and I am sharing with you. I have kept it simple. I did some baking for our church over the weekend, but that doesn’t fall into the healthy category.
This journey we are on feels a little bit like a roller coaster ride. Up and down and up and down. But we keep trekking along putting one foot in front of the other and learning new things.
So stay with me on this journey, I promise more interesting stuff is on the horizon.
From the Ponderosa Kitchen to you.
